Desire and lack by Svajone and Paulius Stanikas
What we desire is not the object itself, not the Other , but the Desiring Other. That is, we desire to be desired. Desire is always and never direct – its function is to stimulate longings so that these could be fullfilled in the desiring consciousness. Only desire is capable of liberating us from the prison of our personal hangups, of deceiving the sterile "censor of reason". Gradually, a whole dictionnary of desires/lacks takes shape, and it enters into eternal conflict with the system of normative rational restraints – the system controlling the dosage of both semantic and visual forms.
